The different rulers, Romans, Moors and Visgoths have left their mark on Valencia. The city is therefore rich in historical sights such as the baroque 17th century Bas\u00edlica de la Virgen on the Plaza de la Virgen with its beautiful fountain. Built in the 13th and 14th centuries, Valencia Cathedral is a mix of Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque styles. Extremely photogenic.<\/p>\n
In X\u00e1tiva, south of the city of Valencia, parts of the old city wall, an imposing collegiate church and beautifully decorated houses can still be seen. A nice walk takes you to the top of the mountain with a castle and beautiful views.<\/p>\n
Further south is Ontinyent with a beautiful historic center, El Barrio de la Vila, with remains of the city wall and towers. The city offers numerous restaurants, terraces and a few museums and the Moros y Cristianos parade takes place at the end of August.<\/p>\n
La Drova is about an hour’s drive from the city. A beautiful valley near the village of Barx that has retained its old atmosphere and tranquility. It is an ideal area for walking and cycling trips. From the Fuente (spring) in La Drova there are several marked hiking trails, including the ‘Ruta del Monastirs’. This old pilgrimage route takes you past five monasteries to visit and you also pass the orange groves for which Valencia is known.<\/p>\n
Nature lovers or hikers will also get their money’s worth at Ontinyent in the Serra de Mariola Natural Park or La Font Roja. Swimming is possible in water basins with waterfalls at Pou Clar where the river Clariano originates. last but not least, we cannot leave the Macizo del Caroig natural park unmentioned, which is located near Moixent. It is a wooded mountain plateau and an Eldorado for nature lovers and hikers.<\/p>\n
The beaches of the province of Valencia are without doubt among the most beautiful in Spain. Extensive wide sandy beaches with dunes can be found at Oliva, Gandia, Tavernes de la Valldigna and Sagunto, but also in Valencia city itself.<\/p>\n
La Malvarrosa near Valencia city is a vast and lively beach that is known for its good and many restaurants and cafes. El Saler near Valencia city is a long sandy beach with dunes which is a popular surfing spot because of the wind.<\/p>\n
Do not miss: Ciutat de les Arts i les Ci\u00e8ncies, Catedral de Santa Mar\u00eda (La Seu). The covered fresh market in the old center, ‘Iglesia De San Nicol\u00e1s De Bari y San Pedro M\u00e1rtir’. A flamenco show is also an absolute must during your stay.<\/p>\n
