Los Almendros is Frigiliana’s most famous house because it’s the only truly intact Cortijo in the area. Built in the eighteenth century, it’s over 250 years old. For centuries, it was a wine farm, inhabited by a family and their farmhands, and it was a hive of activity every day. The walls of the donkey stable are still visible in the yard. Besides keeping chickens and goats, they produced wine, olive oil, and almond oil. An antique wine press stands in one of the bedrooms, and behind the house is an old bread oven where fresh bread was baked for everyone once a week. One of the rooms\u2014the former “Bodega”\u2014is carved entirely out of the rock. The house was recently restored as authentically as possible, preserving as many original details as possible. The large 3,000m\u00b2 garden is filled with old fruit trees, such as oranges, avocados, limes, lemons, and pomegranates; feel free to pick! <\/p>\n
From the main entrance, you enter the living room with a stylish seating area by one of the two fireplaces. French doors open onto the terrace, and there’s a stereo\/CD player, satellite TV, and a DVD player. Adjacent to the living room is a spacious dining room with an antique dining set, separated by a wide archway. The spacious kitchen-diner features a large wooden dining set, ample storage space, and all the necessary appliances, including a fridge\/freezer, oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, juicer, and washing machine. All kitchenware is provided, but if you feel something’s missing, the owner will be happy to provide it. <\/p>\n
Next to the kitchen is a spacious, wheelchair-accessible<\/strong> master bedroom with a door to the terrace and an adapted en-suite bathroom with a shower. Adjacent to the living room is a separate bathroom with a bathtub and shower\/toilet. There are two large bedrooms, one of which sleeps three, while the other features an authentic almond\/wine press, which gives the room a very charming atmosphere. This bedroom has glass doors opening onto a terrace. The fourth bedroom is located in the old bodega, with a shower\/toilet, two single beds, and a small sitting area.
