Pêra
For centuries, Armação de Pêra was a fishing village with an abundance of fish, especially tuna and sardines, which, after being salted, were sold in the south and center of the country.
In the 17th century, a small fort was built on a hill high above the sea to defend against attacks by pirates and privateers, at the initiative of a wealthy owner of ships and fishing gear. The chapel inside, dedicated to Saint Anthony, dates from the same period.
Armação de Pêra still maintains the traditional atmosphere of fishing activities on the dedicated beaches.
Visitors, attracted by the vast sandy beaches and warm waters, give it a cosmopolitan, vibrant and diverse atmosphere.
