The Sierra Subbetica
Centrally located, between the cities of Granada, Cordoba and Malaga. The Subbetica is a nature reserve with a beautiful alternation of limestone mountains with mainly olive groves and rugged, stony peaks in the lower parts. Ideal for people who want to combine nature and culture. It is an area where you can still experience the real Spain. There is still little tourism here and the people are extremely friendly. In the fourteen villages in the area, many remains from Roman and Moorish times can be found.
Subbetica is known to be home to several unique bird species. Ideal for spotting; walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers can indulge themselves in this area. The Subbetica also offers great challenges for seasoned hikers and mountain climbers.
When visiting Subbetica, a visit to Iznajar should not be missed!
Iznájar is best known for the beautiful reservoir, the largest in Andalusia. The views of and from the lake are second to none. People from far and wide come here to enjoy a day at the beach. Activities on and around the lake: take a boat trip, rent pedal boats, take sailing lessons or just enjoy a drink at the beach bar. Iznájar is located in the province of Córdoba, just over the border with Málaga and Granada. The old village is located on top of a high hill and from the village you have a beautiful view of the largest reservoir in Andalusia.
The drive to the village is a sight to behold. There are a few restaurants, bars and shops in Iznajar, for a drink and shopping after visiting the castle at the top of the village.
You can also visit the museum dedicated to the reservoir. Iznájar is an emerging tourist area, although that does not change the authentic character of the village. This is the real Andalusia!
La Taha offers a wide range of lovely holiday homes in this area, and further south towards the town of Antequera.
